From the artist:
This series features a unique printing technique and has become a signature style of mine over the last decade. Being a commercial printer, I get bored with traditional printing techniques and like to experiment with different ways to "print a shirt". I also don't love working on a computer so not using one in my personal work is something I like to try and avoid. I love tie dye techniques, but I wanted the shirts to look a little more controlled. So I stuck with the traditional screen, tape, ink and squeegee, but did not use emulsion or a film to make a stencil. This screen has a vertical rectangle taped off with random organic edges. I use a few different screens to achieve similar looks. The screen used here is over 15 years old. The shirt is folded in a certain pattern on the printing pallet and then a gradient is pulled across the screen. Normally you always make sure the shirt is totally flat before printing, but with these I wanted to be rebellious and do the exact opposite. The folds create the negative space and give an amazing natural look and unique feel, almost like ice crystals forming on top of water.
